Why hypnotherapy? As powerful and as wonderful as the unconscious mind is, it does have its limitations. One of these being that it is a servant of the conscious mind and will do what the conscious mind tells it to. One of the few but key differences between highly successful human and normal behaviour is self-talk. By this we mean what we say to ourselves. How does it work? It is widely accepted that we have a conscious and an unconscious mind. In other words we have two minds. Our two minds are separated by what we call the critical faculty. This fades away in direct proportion to the level of relaxation that the mind and body experience. The hypnotherapis is then able to communicate directly to the powerful unconscious mind. You may be aware that we have four different brain wave categories ranging from the awaken state through to sleep state, these are: • Beta Wave 13-30 Hertz - this is the awake state • Alpha Wave 8-12 Hertz - the state you are in during hypnotherapy • Theta Wave 6-7 Hertz - the state you are in whilst dreaming • Delta Wave 3-5 Hertz - this is the deepest part of sleep
